A Mini Essay on Mini Essays

The Best Holistic Creative Habit

Over the past years of creating content online, I’ve struggled to find my style. Even after dozens of videos and writings, I still have yet to find the style of content that resonates with me.

Every time I sit down to write a blog post or YouTube script, it always feels like a chore — like I’m forced to do it (just like another form of school).

I want something fun, engaging, and that isn’t too mentally taxing for me, yet still insightful, valuable, and intriguing for you.

This is where I discovered the concept of mini essays from a video I watched by YouTuber Odysseas.

A mini essay is a short-form piece of writing designed to capture and develop a single idea or a small set of related thoughts.

Unlike the long, structured academic essays you’d write for a grade in school, mini essays are written voluntarily — often as an aid for learning and a form of creative expression

Personally, after experimenting with writing mini essays for a few weeks now, I find them incredibly valuable as a tool for self-improvement where I get to:

  • Refine my writing skills.

  • Explore creativity in a structured way.

  • Deepen my understanding of topics.

  • Organize my thoughts more effectively.

Mini essays exist beyond school assignments; they can take the form of journal entries, blog posts, Twitter threads, or even Instagram captions.

They offer flexibility, purpose, and an opportunity to sharpen thinking and communication skills — all without the pressure of a formal essay structure.

For me, writing mini essays is more than just a practice — it’s an intentional discipline. It’s a way to sharpen my thoughts, challenge my perspectives, and evolve as both a writer and a thinker. On the surface, it may seem like just another form of writing, but in reality, it’s a vessel for knowledge — one that expands alongside my mind, growing with each new idea I nurture.

A few years from now, I hope to have written enough mini essays to build a vast reservoir of insights — one that I can draw from to support future work. More importantly, I want to accumulate wisdom that I can pass down to others, inspiring change and contributing to something greater than myself.

This is the 2nd installment in my experiment of publishing a mini essay every day towards achieving 100 public pieces. Check out the full list here, and the previous letter here.
